About Kaohsiung

Host city of the EcoMobility World Festival 2017

The City of Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, will be the host city of the next EcoMobility World Festival in October 2017.

Kaohsiung city is committed to the development of green transport. The city has already implemented a number of measures to reduce car dependency, including the development of a bike rental system with 159 stations so far, and the city has completed its 755 kms of bicycle lanes.

In addition, the city already has multiple public transport systems, including MRT, high speed rail, the Taiwan Railway, city buses, ferries, solar boats, and light rail (the first of its kind without catenary cables in Asia). A circular light rail covering 22.1 kms with 37 stops is planned, with the first stage of construction, including 8.7 kms of waterfront light rail passing through 14 stops, scheduled to be completed by June 2017.

Hamaxing or also known as Hamasen will be the host neighborhood of the third EcoMobility World Festival next October 2017. The city is preparing in advance to accommodate this exciting event that will close the neighborhood to private cars and accommodate more environmentally but also people friendly ways of moving around the city.
